North Cariboo Multi-Centre

NEW - April 15, 2010

The request for Qualifications and request for Proposals documents for a Design-Build construction project are now complete. The City and Cariboo Regional District are now focussing solely on securing the $15 million that is required from sources other than local taxation.

Stakeholder meetings

Thank you to the residents who took time out of their schedule to attend the stakeholder and public input meetings for the proposed multi-centre.

The design team

On November 10, 2009 the North Cariboo Joint Planning Committee resolved that the Multi-Centre construction process will feature wood as the primary building material.
The Bridging/Compliance Consultant Services contract has been awarded to Cannon Design Architects Ltd. Their design team also features theatre consultants Schick-Shiner, who have been involved in the theatre component of the facility for several years.
Essentially, Cannon will act as the City/CRD's expert throughout the development of the “what’s in the Multi-Centre” portion of the Design-Build Request For Proposals (RFP). That RFP lays out exactly what construction specifications are required from the builder.
Cannon’s job is to ensure that RFP is realistic and achievable within our $30 million project budget.

The Design Advisory Committee

The committee will take the project to the point where a Request For Proposals for a Design-Build project can be issued. No work after that point can be done until all funding is in place.

Lobbying

Both City and Cariboo Regional District elected officials continue to actively lobby representatives from senior government in hopes of securing the funding that will allow the project to proceed.

Visit the links in the middle column for more detailed information.

The proposed Multi-Centre is a new facility including a 1,600-seat NHL-sized arena, a 450-seat performing arts theatre and accompanying event and assembly space. In one location the facilities become a destination point for conventions and trade shows in addition to their traditional uses.

In November 2008, North Cariboo residents voted in favour of borrowing up to $15 million towards the total $30 million budget for the project.
