City of Quesnel Public Works Department: Solid WasteThe City of Quesnel uses a garbage truck with an automated arm that lifts cans supplied by the City (at no cost to the resident). About the cartsThere are three basic things to remember when you're using your new cart.
Park it Make sure you park the cart at the edge of the curb or roadway with the lid closed.
Point it Once you've rolled your cart out, make sure the arrow on the top of the cart points toward the street. Don't overfill your cart, it can cause messes that may attract wildlife.
Space it Put it out by 8 a.m. and make sure you leave plenty of room between your cart and other carts, parked cars or other obstacle. A good arm's length between your cart and anything else will help ensure reliable pickup. Don't overfill your cart and make sure the lid is closed. Check the serial number on your cart and write it down. This number is assigned to your address - if you move, don't take your cart with you, contact public works and we'll make sure there's a cart for you at your new residence. The standard cart size is 250 litres, a bit more than the current two-bag limit. However, if you feel you need a larger cart, you can get one - but there is an added fee of $65 per year. Are you living with a disability or have physical limitations? Commercial / Industrial Solid Waste Collection:Commercial and industrial waste collections are scheduled over five days per week, Tuesday to Saturday. The monthly rates depend upon the number and size of containers and the number of pickups per week. Trade Waste Container Collection Rates Per Week: Trade Waste Container Rental Rates Per Month: Bins will be emptied according to a schedule set between the customer and the City. All bins must be emptied at least once per week. All items must be placed inside the bin so the lid closes to control odour and litter. All garbage must be placed in the bin. To deter unauthorized use, the customer can install a lock provided that the bin is unlocked on pickup day.

Commercial binsPlease give right-of-way to the garbage truck. It is a difficult vehicle to manoeuvre in the access lanes. Having a car parked in front of your bin means it can't be emptied. Please make sure the garbage truck has sufficient access. Garbage left next to bins will not be collected. Compacting your garbage can reduce your required bin size and save space in the landfill. If your bin is too small, now is the perfect opportunity to upsize. Not acceptable in your garbage bin: Solid Waste Disposal/Recycling:The City of Quesnel Landfill Site and recycling depot is located on Carson Pit Road, south of the City center. For convenience of the general public, the City has a transfer station site at the landfill where citizens can drop off solid waste and recyclables 24 hours a day. Hours of Operation The Transfer Station and Recycling drop-off bins are open 24 hours daily at the recycling depot/landfill site on Carson Pit Road. However, for specific large items (as noted herein) and for answers to questions please telephone: 992-3817 or visit the transfer station attendant for landfill site matters, or 992-2426 for the recycling depot staff during the following hours: Monday and Tuesday Wednesday to Sunday Statutory holidays Contact UsPlease feel free to direct all inquiries to Public Works Department , City of Quesnel at (250) 992-6330.
