The referendum
(and how it affects you)

On November 15 2008, North Cariboo residents voted in favour of borrowing up to $15 million towards the $30 million budget for the project.

Residents also approved increasing the taxation limit for the North Cariboo Recreation and Parks function to a maximum of the greater of $3.2095/$1,000 of assessed value of land and improvements or $4,900,000 to provide for the construction of a new arena, theatre and multi-purpose event space.

Who is affected?

You must live or own property within the North Cariboo Recreation and Parks boundary to be affected by the referendum results. Check your tax notice for a line item titled SUBREG REC TAXES (City) or N CARIBOO REC (CRD). If that description is on your notice, you pay taxes to support recreation in the North Cariboo, including the potential construction costs for the new Multi-Centre.

Timeline

This result remains in effect for a maximum of five years from the referendum date. If the $15 million isn't borrowed by November 14, 2013, the results will no longer be valid and another referendum would have to be held to get permission from the electorate regarding borrowing money for the Multi-Centre.
