I’m a native son of this community.
I was born March 18, 1937 and haven’t left since.
My resume includes stints at Watts Bakery, delivering bread
and training as a baker, and working as a delivery boy at Overwaitea
Foods.
In 1954 I began what would be a more than 30-year life in forestry.
I drove a forklift for R & R Sawmills and spent more than
30 years as an independent logger hauling lumber with my beloved
International truck.
I also spent several years working for the Department of Highways
as its local office manager.
I met my wife, Elaine, in September of 1957 and married her
one year later to the day.
In 1968, we moved to Blackwater Road and created Hidden Valley
Ranch, where we still reside. We’ve raised two children
there, Douglas and Barbara, and have been blessed with four grandchildren.
In 1972, I graduated from auctioneering school in Billings,
Montana. I started doing charity auctions, which have raised
more than $2.4 million for the community.
One of the highlights of my more than 18 years serving as a city councillor is the creation of West Fraser Timber Park. I’m especially proud of all the work that volunteers, West Fraser Mills Ltd and the City of Quesnel have done to make it a reality.
However, there’s more to be done. Our community is still in need of a large infrastructure program and we need to do whatever it takes to correct the deplorable situation concerning West Quesnel Land Stability.
We also need to continue to explore and offer whatever help we may give to future entrepreneurs, while acknowledging the efforts of those who have made our economy run in the past.
