Coralee was first elected to Quesnel City Council in 2005 and has been Executive Director of the Quesnel & District Chamber of Commerce since 1999. In both these roles Coralee has been a strong advocate for economic sustainability and has worked to assist both business and the local community to diversify.
As part of the fourth generation growing up on the family farm, Oakes is guided by the family motto of applying courage and enterprise to continuously move forward through determination, dedication and self- discipline with a clear vision of the future.
She is the past president of the British Columbia Chamber Executives and has served as a Director on the BC Chamber of Commerce, Canadian Chamber of Commerce Executives, Cariboo Chilcotin Tourism Association and numerous local not for profit organizations. She is the proud recipient of the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association award of contribution, Suburban Chamber of Excellence and was selected to be a Canadian Youth representative for the Pacific Rim in China. She was appointed to the Provincial Small Business Roundtable in 2007 and sits on the Small Business Roundtable Climate Action Team.
Oakes currently leads the Justice and Safety Committee for the City of Quesnel. A graduate from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Political Science, Coralee also has a diploma in Performing Arts and is a Certified Business & Retention Consultant.
Her roots are grounded deep in this community as her family moved here in 1933. That is why she is proud to have the privilege to leave her imprint. Coralee is relentlessly optimistic about the future of Quesnel.
