The City of Quesnel has an active volunteer Emergency Social Services (ESS) Program in place. The program is to prepare people if a disaster were to happen in the Quesnel and district area.

Some of the main functions of ESS include registration and inquiry for the purposes of family reunification, referrals for food, clothing and lodging, communication services and personal services.

If a disaster was to occur and residents were displaced from their homes and families, people would be asked to report to a Reception Centre to receive appropriate assistance. In Quesnel, the Arts and Recreation Centre is designated as the main Reception Centre. Should this location be inaccessible due to the disaster or for whatever reason, Correlieu Secondary School is designated as an alternate site.

The ESS team regularly carries out training and exercises.
