Frequently asked Questions:
1 How do I apply for a job with the City?
Employment opportunities that are not restricted to City employees are
posted on the website, and advertised locally. Applications must be
received on or before the closing date. When submitting your application
or resume, be sure to indicate the competition number.
2 If there are not any postings, do you accept applications or resumes?
Due to Freedom of Information restrictions, we do not hold resumes on
file. You should therefore only apply on posted positions.
3 Do you advertise job vacancies in the newspapers or elsewhere?
Job vacancies are usually advertised in the Quesnel Cariboo Observer
as well as on our website. Management positions are also posted on
the CivicInfo website.
4 Do I need an application form to apply for a posting?
A current resume, which shows how you meet the qualifications and experience
required for each position, is all you need to submit. Please include
the competition number with your application.
5 What types of positions are available?
Union positions can be casual (as and when required), seasonal, temporary
(usually to cover for sick leave or maternity leave), part time or
full time. This will be clearly stated in the posting.
6 How often do the postings change?
Employment opportunities are posted as vacancies occur, or as required.
There is no set day for jobs to be advertised. Usually, postings are
advertised for two or three weeks.
7 What qualifications do I need to work for the City?
Each job has a special set of qualifications and experience. These are listed clearly in the job posting and job description. If you are interested in a particular career path, telephone the Human Resources department, where staff may advise you as to what type of training you should be taking, and what the educational requirements for particular jobs are.
8 Why are some vacancies restricted to employees only?
Under the terms of our collective agreements, positions have to be offered
internally first. If there are no interested or qualified applicants,
then we can post externally.
