Community Action on Energy Efficiencyrollover rolloverrolloverrolloverrolloverrollover

The Community Action on Energy Efficiency (CAEE) pilot project was initiated in Quesnel in January 2005.

The city was selected from a number of candidate communities by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) to participate in this initiative. In addition to NRCan and MEM, the program is also supported BC Hydro and Terasen Gas.

The purpose of the CAEE program is to provide people, business and industry with information and support to implement energy efficient measures.

What is Energy Efficiency?

Energy efficiency means using less energy to do the same job. Heating your home, doing your laundry, lighting your office and processing wood products all use energy. In most instances, all these things can be done with much less energy use. Better insulation in buildings, more efficient appliances and lighting and process improvements save money and energy.

City of Quesnel Plan Endorses Provincial Energy Efficiency Buiding Sector Targets

In September 2005 the BC government unveiled Energy Efficient Buildings: A Plan for BC.  The plan promotes increased energy efficiency in new and existing homes and buildings across the province.  Part of the plan includes a number of energy efficiency targets for buildings in the province.

On March 27, 2006, the Council of the City of Quesnel endorsed the following energy efficiency targets identified in the energy efficiency buildings plan:

BUILDING SECTOR

2010 TARGET

New Single Family and Row houses

Achieve an EGH rating of 80, reducing average energy consumption by 32%

Existing industrial, commercial and institutional buildings

Reduce the energy consumption in 20% of existing buildings by an average of 14%
